How to Organize a School Attendance System with QR Codes

Updated May 20, 2026. Publisher: QR Code Ticket by Darkaa.

A step-by-step tutorial for setting up a secure, digital roll call system in under 10 minutes.

Prepare the Student Roster

Open a new Google Sheet. Create columns for 'Student Name', 'ID Number', 'Grade', and 'Parent Email' (if sending digitally). Paste your student data into these rows. This sheet will act as your central database for the entire school year or semester.

Generate & Distribute Codes

Open the QR Code Ticket add-on. Map your columns to the ticket template. For schools, we recommend the 'Batch PDF' option to print codes onto labels for student planners or ID badges. Alternatively, use the 'Email' feature to send digital passes to older students or parents.

Scan for Attendance

Install the free mobile check-in app on teachers' devices. Select the 'Session' (e.g., 'Morning Assembly'). Scan student codes as they enter. The app will instantly record the timestamp and status back to your Google Sheet, handling both online and offline environments seamlessly.
